About PROFESSOR He
Dr. He has dedicated 17 years to advancing childhood myopia prevention through public health practice, clinical research, and science education. She has spearheaded major initiatives, including the Shanghai Children and Adolescents Large-scale Eye (SCALE) Study, which provided vision screening for 3 million children, the Shanghai Time Outside to Reduce Myopia (STORM) Trial, and the SCALE–High Myopia (SCALE-HM) Study. She also pioneered the development of the Mumu outdoor monitoring wristwatch and smart eyeglass frames, and launched the popular science campaign, "Go Sunning for Sight."
Dr. He has led or contributed to the development of four national health industry standards, including the School Myopia Screening Protocol and the Reference Standard for Hyperopia Reserve in Children and Adolescents. She also chaired the Early Prevention and Control Guidelines for Childhood Myopia and led two expert consensus statements on axial length application and low-level red-light therapy for myopia management.
An accomplished researcher and author of more than 100 academic publications, Dr. He has been recognized among Stanford University's World's Top 2% Scientists. Her editorial appointments include serving on the editorial board of Ophthalmic Epidemiology, as Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Journal of School Doctor, and as a member of the editorial board of the Chinese Journal of School Health.
She holds several leadership positions in professional organizations, including Standing Committee Member and Chair of the Visual Health (Myopia Prevention and Control) Working Group of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association. She is also a member of the Association's Committee on Ocular Public Health and the Ophthalmology Professional Committee of the Chinese Women Doctors' Association.
Nationally and internationally recognized for her contributions to myopia prevention and eye health, Dr. He serves as an expert on the Myopia Committees of China's Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education, a Board Member of the International Myopia Institute (IMI), and a Foundation Committee Member of the WHO SPECS 2030 Initiative. She contributed to the IMI White Papers and co-organizes BrightChina, the largest myopia-focused conference in China.
Her honors include the prestigious 18th Silver Snake Award (2021), Shanghai's highest recognition for outstanding young medical professionals, as well as national awards such as the Wuzhou Women in Science and Technology Award and the Huaxia Medical Science and Technology Award.
