About DOCTOR OSTRIN
Dr. Lisa A. Ostrin is an optometrist, vision scientist, and nationally and internationally recognized researcher specializing in childhood myopia, ocular development, and circadian visual physiology. Her research focuses on why myopia develops, why its prevalence is increasing, and how environmental and biological factors influence eye growth.
Dr. Ostrin’s laboratory studies outdoor light exposure, near work, circadian rhythms, the choroid, and potential strategies for slowing myopia progression. Her work helps researchers and eye care professionals better understand how children’s daily environments and visual behaviors may affect eye development.
A distinctive part of Dr. Ostrin’s research involves using wearable sensors and objective measurement tools to study children’s light exposure, working distance, and daily visual behaviors. These technologies allow researchers to evaluate factors that can be difficult to measure accurately through parent questionnaires or self-reported behavior alone.
As Dean of Graduate Studies and Research and Professor at SUNY College of Optometry, Dr. Ostrin combines scientific leadership with a strong commitment to education and mentorship.
